Camp Simba 2015 Day 1-3
Day 1
With our various tie-ups we were able to pack our camp with fun-filled activities that revolved around teamwork and self-discovery. We had an opportunity to collaborate with Camp Challenge and FOCUS Adventure, an organisation with great experience in self-improvement and team building activities.
With their help, our campers had an enjoyable time at Sentosa on the first day, with an exciting team raft-building exercise as well as a variety of interactive wet games planned by medical students in our organisation team.
Day 2
Wild Wild Wet
The morning of day two saw an exciting new addition to the camp that would soon become one of the kids’ favourite. NTUC Club generously sponsored over 100 tickets to our program, and enabled our kids to have an exciting morning at Wild Wild Wet waterpark. The children had a blast sliding down water slides and floating through the lazy river, which was noted to be a great time of bonding between the facilitators and their children.
Mega-Reunion @ Duke-NUS
The Mega-reunion, which took place in the afternoon and evening at Duke-NUS brought back campers from previous years to promote the value of sustaining a Simba community. The carnival night this year saw the campers put their agility skills to the test with a Nerf gun tournament, set up by our partner, Chaebol Events. Classic carnival games were set up, with the highlight being a bouncy castle, sponsored by Kiddom.
We were also extremely happy to see a number of older past campers, now in secondary school, to join us again as volunteers to help engage their younger peers. It has always been our hope to build a lasting relationship between our campers and facilitators that extends beyond the camp itself.
Day 3
Scavenger Hunt
On the last day, the kids enjoyed a scavenger hunt at NUS before they washed up and prepared for the closing ceremony. The camp concluded with an exciting set of performance put on by students from NUS YLLSoM as well as the campers themselves!
Closing Ceremony
As usual, we invited campers’ families to attend our closing ceremony. This year, we expanded the influence of Camp Simba further into the families, by inviting them to have lunch with the campers on the last day of the camp to have a chance to see their kids in action with their peers, as well as potentially form support groups among each other if they’d like.
We were also honoured to have Dr. Akhileswaran, Medical Director of HCA, and A/Prof. Lim Boon Leng, Designated Institutional Official of SingHealth, as guests of honour for our closing ceremony.
